c1850 5 cent 1847 cover #1 Rockville Connecticut
Attractive and scarce 5 cent 1847 issue cover from Rockville, Connecticut. Red CDS and "paid", stamp applied at upper left, addressed to Norfolk CT. Some spreading of oil-based ink, stain at center in address presumably from the wax seal on the back of the envelope. No content. Nearly 4-margin stamp with good margins at top, bottom and right, but in just at the upper left corner, with red grid cancel. Scuff at top right from what may be an old corner mount or tape. There are a surprising 26 covers from Rockville in the census, several of which are from this same correspondence and bear the red CDS and "paid" markings. Nice CT cover!

The next year-dated cover in the correspondence is dated 11/49 and then 4 in 1850. The remaining 14 covers are not year-dated.
Letter addressed to Charlotte Pettibone (1834-1910). She married Horace Winslow (1814-1905) on May 8, 1850. Horace was a Presbyterian minister who served at the Congressional Church of Rockville Connecticut from 1845 to 1852.
