1847 5c orange brown Franklin (Scott #1b) single tied by blue circular grid cancel on folded letter sheet sent from Norwich, Connecticut to New York. Accompanying blue June 13 circular datestamp at left. Stamp has four full margins, close at top right. File fold left of stamp does not affect stamp. Letter sheet has ink erosion in address on front (see cert). 2005 Philatelic Foundation Certificate (PFC).

Hezekiah Ripley was a bookseller associated with the American Home Missionary Society at 150 Nassau Street in New York City (Google AI). He is listed as an assistant in the 1849 edition of Doggett's.
