Lot 1387 10c Black (2), full to huge margins, tied by red grids on Dec 31, 1849 folded letter to Wisconsin, contents make reference to the death of Mr. Peck’s little son, most likely Samuel Peck, the daguerreian and case manufacturer (his partner was Phineas Pardee - the letter is from an S. D. Pardee, Very Fine, with 1962 Royal Certificate Cat $1600.

Samuel Sanford Peck (1813-1879) was an American 19th-century photographer, artist, businessperson, photo case manufacturer, and gallery owner. He was based in New Haven, Connecticut and produced daguerrotypes before moving into the manufacture of cases for daguerrotypes as, Samuel Peck & Co. Samuel was married to Ellen M. Smith Peck (1820-1907)
Stephen Dickerman Pardee (1803-1878) was the father of Benjamin S. Pardee (1830-1900).
Phineas Pardee (1817-1889) was a daguerrotypist. He and Stephen & Benjamin were not directly related.
