Lot 1 #1 var, 5c Red Brown with pre-printing paper fold, this vertical fold goes vertically between the eyes and down the nose of Benjamin Franklin, if the stamp were lifted and opened out it would be most impressive indeed, also a smaller diagonal pre-printing fold in the top right corner leaving a white space about 1 mm, the stamp is an attractive 4 margin copy with nice impression, just barely tied to an 1850 entire folded letter by red circular grid with matching New Haven, Ct. cds at left, posted to New London, Ct., very fine; pre-printing paper folds on this issue are very scarce, especially as wide as this is.
