Lot 11 5c red brown, margins clear to enormous showing portion of adjoining stamp, touching frame line at top, rich color and attractive, tied by light red grid cancel on 1849 letter sheet bearing red New Haven 18 MAY cds.

Cover address blocked by overlapping image in auction catalog but the word City is at lower right. May be addressed to G. Carpenter in Norwich City.
Joel W. White was the cashier at the Merchants’ Bank in Norwich since its founding in 1823. G. Carpenter is listed as the assistant cashier under White in the 1848 edition of Bradley’s Connecticut Register. The last cover to J W White was dated Nov 1848 and the first one to G. Carpenter was dated Feb 1849.
