George Burgess (October 31, 1809 – April 23, 1866) was the first Episcopal bishop of Maine. He was a rector of Christ Church in Hartford, Conn, married Sophia Kip in October 1846, and was elected Bishop of Main in Oct 1847 (consecrated in Hartford) and then moved to Gardiner, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Given the title, Right Revd., on the cover, this is probably not an 1847 usage.
