1847, 5¢ red brown (No. 1), ample margins to touching, tied by "Paid" with pointing hand in rarely seen blue, matching large "5" and "Hartford Ct. Aug. 11" c.d.s. on ca. 1848 folded cover to New Bedford, stamp additionally pen cancelled, two small bleach spots, Fine appearance, rare with this marking tying the stamp. Estimate $300-400.
Expertization: 1975 P.F. Certificate.

According to collector Anthony Dewey, blue Hartford cancels were only used in 1847. If true, this is the earliest known Hartford 1847 stamped cover.
