Scott #1 1847 5c Franklin Stamp On Folded Letter From Hartford, CT To New York City (045)
1847 5c red brown Franklin (Scott #1) single tied by a magenta circular grid cancel on 1849 dated folded cover sent Hartford, Connecticut to New York City. Accompany magenta Hartford, Connecticut integral-rate circular date stamp at right. The 5c stamp has minor age spots and large margins to in at left. This folded cover also has the iconic Hartford, CT "PAID" with pointing hand straight-line handstamp at left. 1847 Issue folded letters with auxiliary markings in addition to the markings tying the stamp(s) are quite desirable. An very nice piece of 1847 Issue postal history from Hartford, CT.
The 5c stamp paid the postage for a letter weighing 1/2-ounce or less traveling under 300-miles. The combined elements of the magenta colored "PAID" with pointing hand and circular date stamp markings along make this the perfect item for the Connecticut postal history enthusiast, student/exhibitor of 1847 Issue postal markings and usages or collector of great classic U.S. covers.
