A scarce 1850 folded letter franked with a four margin #2 from Mobile, to Philadelphia. Boldly canceled with red grid. Matching red Mobile, Alabama cds. Cover with pre-stamped diagonal fold plus another horizontal fold. Main stamp uncreased and rough at bottom. Per Hubert Skinner, 'this is one of two known covers from Mobile franked with a #2'. Very fine. Ex-Hubert Skinner. ¨Cat $1700

Scott #2 1847 10c Washington Single On Mobile, Alabama Cover ~ Sent To Philadelphia, (212)
1847 10c black Washington (Scott #2) single tied by "paint" red circular grid cancel on 1850 dated folded cover sent to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Accompanying red April 4, Mobile circular date stamp cancel at left. The stamp features a deep color and ample margins to inclusion of a large part of the adjacent stamp at right. Very minor cover age spot affects bottom of the stamp. Above all though rarely does so much of an adjacent stamp expand the "margin" of a 10c 1847 Issue stamp used on cover. The cover appears to have a diagonal paper fold which appears to go through the stamp in fact does not affect the stamp at all. The paper fold originated with the manufacture of the paper itself. A horizontal paper fold slightly affects the partial 10c stamp outside the margin of the full 10c 1847 Issue stamp that adorns this cover. A very fine 10c 1847 Issue folded cover sent from a Southern state to a Northern state during the Antebellum Period of American history.
