May 20" circular datestamp on 1848 folded letter to Manchester, England, sender's explicit ship designation "P Caledonia from Boston 31 May" across top, clear strike of "1/-" one-shilling due handstamp, Liverpool (Jun. 14) and Manchester backstamps
EXTREMELY FINE. A SPLENDID 10-CENT 1847 TRANSATLANTIC USAGE. THE BRILLIANT ORANGE MARKINGS OF MOBILE, ALABAMA, ADD A COLORFUL ELEMENT OFTEN MISSING FROM 1847 COVERS TO EUROPE.
Mobile used two distinctive colored inks for postal markings: the "Paint Red" in a dense shade of carmine, and this bright Orange, which is not merely an oily red, but actually has the vibrancy of true orange ink.

It Is Genuinely Used On Cover
Fielden Brothers was a prominent and highly successful textile firm with headquarters in Todmorden and trading offices in Manchester, Liverpool, London, and New York. John Fielden (1784-1849) had four brothers, Samuel (1772), Joshua (1778), James (1788) and Thomas (1790). The Fielden Brothers ran their father's, Joshua Fielden (1748-1811), cotton mill business after his death.
