Letter datelined Mobile February 25, 1850
Note the letter appears underpaid BY STAMPS, as the distance from Mobile to Philadelphia is more than 300 miles but the Mobile PM clearly stamped the letter PAID and a red 10 shows the total postage was paid. A stamp does not appear to be missiong so the sender must have paid the remaining 5c in coin. This was fairly common in the 1847 era as neither the use of stamps nor prepayment of mail was required at the time.
