Horizontal pair, position 79-80R, right stamp with double transfer and pre-printing paper crease, ample to huge margins including right sheet margin, gorgeous color and superb impression, cancelled by orange grids, matching \"Mobile Ala. Jan. 10\" c.d.s. on large part of 1849 folded letter to Greensboro, Very Fine pair, Extremely Fine. Estimate $1,500-2,000

It Is A Genuine Usage With ORANGE MOBILE, ALA. JAN.10,1849 POSTAL MARKINGS
Henry Watson, Jr. was born on September 24, 1810 in East Windsor, Connecticut. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. By 1834, he settled in Greensboro, Alabama, where he became a successful lawyer. He went on to purchase a 1,500-acre plantation in Newbern, Alabama and up to 200 slaves, making him one of the largest slaveholders in Alabama at the time. He married Sophia (Peck) Watson (1821-1860), the daughter of Frederick and Eliza Peck of Greensboro, Alabama.. He founded the Planter's Insurance Company and served as its President. He died on February 10, 1891 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
