#1a, 5c Dark brown, two singles, both with intense color and detailed impression, the right stamp with large to very large margins all around, the left stamp with mostly large margins to well clear at upper left, tiny crease in the margin at top left, tied by two strikes of red square grid to cover to Beaufort, South Carolina, matching "New-York/Feb 24" datestamp alongside and orange straightline "Paid" handstamp, cover with tear and stain at top right, still very fine and attractive; unlisted in the Alexander census.

IT IS A GENUINE USAGE, THE LEFT STAMP WITH A CORNER CREASE AT TOP LEFT, THE COVER WITH THE COVER A STAIN AT TOP RIGHT; AND DECLINE OPINION WITH RESPECT TO WHERE THE ORANGE "PAID" WAS APPLIED.
