1847, 5¢ red brown (No. 1), two singles, slightly overlapping, left with margins to just in at top right, other with mostly large to enormous margins showing parts of two adjoining stamps, stunning rich color and sharp impressions, tied by red grids, matching "Charleston S.C. 10 Aug, 22" c.d.s. on 1847 folded letter to Philadelphia Pa., large manuscript "Paid" at center; left stamp with light vertical file crease, other stamp Extremely Fine, a scarce and very early Southern usage. ¨Estimate $750-1,000
