FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Classics Society to Revise Brookman's influential literature and APS StampShow

July 18, 2011...The USPCS has recently announced that they intend to revise Lester Brookman's seminal three-volume work, The United States Postage Stamps of the Nineteenth Century. Thanks to the generosity of member Michael Laurence who gave the society the rights to the work, the USPCS will re-write, edit and re-publish a revised edition to be placed on sale on or before World Stamp Show, NY 2016. The revised edition will incorporate any new information which has come to light since the last 1967 Lindquist edition. If you can offer expertise in a particular area or series, up to and including the Columbians, to assist with this project please contact Jim Allen at stamp-mole@sbcglobal.net. This is one of the most definitive pieces of work for Classic-era USA philately and will provide future generations with a vital piece of work to learn from.

From August 11-14th, the American Philatelic Society will be hosting their annual StampShow in Columbus, OH at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. For more information, visit www.stamps.org/StampShow/index.htm. The USPCS will be present and convene a meeting on Friday, August 12th at 8:00 a.m. in Room E161A of the convention center. This board meeting will be open to members and we encourage all to attend.

The USPCS will also sponsor three speakers. On Friday, August 12th, David D'Alessandris will present "Cross Border Mail Between the United States and the Canadian Maritime Provinces" at 2:00 p.m. in Room E151. Also, on Saturday August 14th, Michael McClung will speak on "Early Union Occupation Post Offices in the Deep South-east" at 2:00 p.m. in Room E160A. Following this talk, at 3:00 p.m., Richard Winter will present a talk on "United States-Russia Mail" in the same room.

The UPSCS show dinner will take place on Friday August 12th at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant. Space is limited to the first 40 members. To make reservations, contact Mike Morrissey at mmorrissey@columbus.rr.com.

About the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, Inc.

The U. S. Philatelic Classics Society (USPCS) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) association of people interested in the pre-1894 stamps and postal history of the United States. Our goal is to promote interest and knowledge of philately through the encouragement of philatelic research, and through exchange of information among our members as well with other philatelic organizations. We do this by preparing and distributing philatelic literature and periodicals, particularly The Chronicle of the U. S. Classic Postal Issues and the Chairman's Chatter. We are operated entirely by volunteers, and welcome anyone interested in the "classic era" of American philately.
