April 14, 2008...The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society (USPCS) announces that it will hold its 2008 annual meeting in conjunction with 45th annual Exhibit of the North New Jersey Federated Stamp Clubs, Inc. Complete details about the show, hotel and travel arrangements, and hours can be found at the NOJEX website at http://www.nojex.org/.

"This annual meeting will be a wonderful opportunity for our society's members from across the United States to congregate at a single venue to share their enthusiasm for U.S. classic stamps and postal history. Additionally the Classics Society is honored to hold our annual at the same show as this year's United States Stamp Society's annual meeting." said Wade Saadi, President of the Society. "The combination of the two society's exhibits, programs and people will be a rare opportunity, with so much experience and passion for United States Philately in one place," Saadi continued.

The current schedule of evens and programs includes:
Friday, May 23
3:00 - 4:00 PM: Talk by Steve Pacetti: "Leeds Patent Envelopes"
Saturday, May 24
8:00 - 10:30 AM: Board of Directors Meeting
1:00 - 2:00 PM: Annual Membership Meeting
2:00 - 3:00 PM: Talk by Scott Trepel: "The City Despatch Post 1842-1852 Issues: A Study of America's First and Most Versatile Stamp-Producing Plate"

In addition to the conducting of Society business, the annual meeting features philatelic seminars, exhibits of interest to students of the classic period of United States postage, and the awarding of the Society's annual awards, including the Society's highest honor - the Distinguished Philatelist Award.

Since its inauguration in 1988, forty-four people have been invited to sign this award in recognition for "Exceptionally meritorious service to U. S. philately through published research, award-winning collections, active participation in the organization and promotion of philatelic exhibitions, and sustained administrative service to the national or international organizations which furthered United States philately." Leonard H. Hartmann & Van Koppersmith were the 2007 recipients of the Distinguished Philatelist Award.
